The Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to take place in UAE, chairman Brijesh Patel confirmed to Cricbuzz, on Tuesday.
“We have written to the government seeking permission to host the tournament in UAE,” Patel told Cricbuzz. “The dates have not been finalised as yet and will be decided at the (next) IPL GC, which will be held in the next seven or ten days.”
The cash-rich league was postponed for an indefinite time after the COVID-19 outburst but now the the tournament is confirmed. The World T20 was earlier postponed which means the BCCI had the window open for kiang the IPL happen.
Earlier, the BCCI had also planned to host a training camp for the centrally contracted players in UAE.
Mumbai Indians are the defending champions. The MI franchise is the most successful team who have won the title four times, while CSK have won it thrice.
Kolkata Knight Riders have won it twice while Rajasthan Royals, Deccan Chargers and Sunrisers Hyderabad have won it once.
IPL was slated to begin at the end of March and MI would have taken on CSK in the opening encounter of the tournament at the iconic Wankhede stadium.
The IPL has been held overseas twice. The 2009 edition took place in South Africa while UAE hosted half of the season in 2014 due to the general elections in India.
