The Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to begin from Spetember 19, IPL chairman Brijesh Patel has told PTI on Friday.
“The GC will meet shortly but we have finalised the schedule. It will run from September 19 to November 8. We expect the government approval to come through. It is a full 51-day IPL,” Patel confirmed the development after PTI reported the dates on Thursday.
The players will have to reach UAE 25 days prior to the start of the league while they will also go under 14-day quarantine before they can step on the field.
The IPL chairman on Wednesday cleared the air and told that the IPL will be hosted by UAE.
It was earlier slated to begin at the end of Mar ch but was postponed. Mumbai Indians were to host Chennai Super Kings at Wankhede stadium.
MI is the most successful team in the IPL as it has lifted the trophy four times while CSK has won it thrice. Apart from them Kolkata Knight Riders has been crowned as the winner twice while Rajasthan Royals, Deccan Chargers and Sunrisers Hyderabad have won it once.
This won’t be the first time when IPL would be taking place outside the country. In 2009, the IPL was shifted to South Africa while in 2014, first half of the tournament took place in UAE because of the general elections.
