The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) might hold the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year in either UAE or Sri Lanka as per reports.

The cash-rich league was earlier postponed till April 14 and later for an indefinite time due to the COVID-19 outburst.

Though, the final and official announcement is yet to come. “We are yet to decide on the venue but in all probability, it is going outside this year. The condition in India doesn’t look suited to have so many teams come in at one or two venues and then create an atmosphere that will be safe for the players as well as the general public even though the games may be played behind closed doors,” the official said while talking to IANS.

Mumbai Indians are the defending champions. The MI franchise is the most successful team who have won the title four times, while CSK have won it thrice.

Kolkata Knight Riders have won it twice while Rajasthan Royals, Deccan Chargers and Sunrisers Hyderabad have won it once.

IPL was slated to begin at the end of March and MI would have taken on CSK in the opening encounter of the tournament at the iconic Wankhede stadium.
