The Indian Premier League (IPL) is likely to be played in UAE between September 26 to November 6. The COVID-19 outburst in the world had forced the board to postpone the cash-rich league for an indefinite time.
“It’s the only likely option for the BCCI now. It is 80 per cent certain that this will be the schedule,” sources close to the development informed Sportskeeda.
While the BCCI is thinking on hosting the tournament in UAE, the country is already preparing itself to host the 2020 edition.
Earlier, the BCCI had also planned to host a training camp for the centrally contracted players in UAE.
Mumbai Indians are the defending champions. The MI franchise is the most successful team who have won the title four times, while CSK have won it thrice.
Kolkata Knight Riders have won it twice while Rajasthan Royals, Deccan Chargers and Sunrisers Hyderabad have won it once.
IPL was slated to begin at the end of March and MI would have taken on CSK in the opening encounter of the tournament at the iconic Wankhede stadium.
The IPL has been held overseas twice. The 2009 edition took place in South Africa while UAE hosted half of the season in 2014 due to the general elections in India.
