The IPL 2020 is set to take place in UAE later this year. The news has brought joy for the cricket fans and especially those who look upto MS Dhoni. Dhoni has been out of action for the past one year now.
He last played for India in the World Cup 2019 semi-final against New Zealand that India lost. The IPL was seen as his comeback opportunity but the cash-rich league was postponed for an indefinite time leaving the fans in dilemma whether the right-handed batsman would be able to come back or not.
But now the wicket-keeper batsman has got the chance to make a comeback to the side. But former Australia player Dean Jones has opined that the former India captain has to perform well in this edition of the IPL else “doors will be shut for him”.
“If Dhoni has a wonderful IPL then he’s away, but if he doesn’t do well in the next IPL then perhaps his door is definitely shut. But, he’s left the door open. This break might be fantastic for him,” Jones told the Times of India.
MS was seen practicing at the Chepauk stadium with his CSK franchise before the lockdown.
The players will have to reach UAE 25 days prior to the start of the league while they will also go under 14-day quarantine before they can step on the field.
It was earlier slated to begin at the end of Mar ch but was postponed. Mumbai Indians were to host Chennai Super Kings at Wankhede stadium.
MI is the most successful team in the IPL as it has lifted the trophy four times while CSK has won it thrice. Apart from them Kolkata Knight Riders has been crowned as the winner twice while Rajasthan Royals, Deccan Chargers and Sunrisers Hyderabad have won it once.
This won’t be the first time when IPL would be taking place outside the country. In 2009, the IPL was shifted to South Africa while in 2014, first half of the tournament took place in UAE because of the general elections.
