It may have been a year since the ICC World Cup ended last year, but the Indian Test team vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane is still not in the position to be included in the team in the tournament. He says that he was doing well in ODIs before the 2019 World Cup and he should have joined the team.

Rahane has been out of Team India for limited-overs for more than a year and says that if he were included in the team in the World Cup in England, he was also ready to play at the opening or number four. Rahane said, “All cricketers dream of playing in the World Cup and the same applies to me.

“I was in the ODI team before the World Cup and I was doing well. Before the World Cup, I was playing at the opener and number four and I was ready to play at any place.”

Asked if he still wanted to play limited-overs cricket, he said, “I am ready to play limited-overs cricket.” I do not focus on things that I do not control. But I am positive and I hope that I will be back in the ODI team.

Rahane used to play for Rajasthan in the IPL till now but this season he will play for Delhi Capitals. Rahane said, “As a professional player you have to be loyal to the game.”

“I am thankful for the role I played for Rajasthan. But now I have got an opportunity to play for Delhi and I am looking forward to it. I am excited to play under the leadership of team head coach Ricky Ponting.”
