Delhi Capitals have roped in Daniel Sams as Jason Roy’s replacement for the IPL 2020 after the English batsman sustained a side strain. Roy has opted out of the three-match T20I sereis against Pakistan as well.
Speaking on being part of the franchise, Sams said that he feels fortunate to get a chance to play IPL this year. “The IPL is a huge platform for any cricketer, and back home, we all follow the tournament extremely closely every year,” he said.
The IPL 2020 is set scheduled to begin from September 19 in the UAE. The BCCI had to move the IPL to UAE after India became one of the worst-effected countries in the world with COVID-19.
This won’t be the first time that the IPL will be held outside the country. In 2009, the cash-rich league was held in South Africa while in 2014, the first half of the tournament was held in UAE.
Sams came into the limelight during last year’s Big Bash League where he picked up 30 wickets in 17 games for the Sydney Thunders.
The players have begun to reach UAE for the upcoming IPL 2020 scheduled to begin on September 19. Former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson posted a video of his from the hotel room while RCB and India sipper Virat Kohli updated a picture of his after reaching the destination.
Former India captain MS Dhoni who announced retirement from international cricket last week was also seen on Chennai airport.
Siddarth Kaul and Shikhar Dhawan’s pictures with parents went viral on social media.
