Team India faced a big defeat in the first match of the ODI series against New Zealand (India vs New Zealand). In this match, Team India captain Virat Kohli surpassed former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly in terms of scoring the most runs as captain in ODIs.

Kohli scored 51 runs in 63 balls in the first ODI against New Zealand at the Seddon Park ground on Wednesday. He could not read Ish Sodhi’s googly and was bowled out.

31-year-old Kohli has now scored 5123 runs in ODIs as captain and he has left Ganguly behind in this matter. Ganguly scored 5082 runs in 148 ODIs as captain. This was Kohli’s 87th match as captain. He has scored 21 centuries and 23 half-centuries as an Indian captain in ODIs.

Former captain Mahendra Singh as the Indian captain tops the list of runners. Dhoni has 5239 runs. Dhoni has scored so many runs in 172 innings. Mohammad Azharuddin is second after Dhoni, who has scored 5239 runs in 162 innings. This is followed by Virat’s number.

The second match of the series will take place at Eden Park in Auckland on Saturday. The last match of this three-match series will take place on Tuesday 11 February at the Bay Oval ground in Mount Maunganui.
