As a contender for victory against New Zealand, the Indian team failed to perform as expected in the first Test match. The hosts defeated India by 10 wickets in the first Test. After the defeat, captain Virat Kohli admitted that many mistakes were made from his team. Kohli said that the Indian team failed on both the batting and bowling fronts. However, if we talk about the players, Ishant Sharma, Mayank Agarwal and Ajinkya Rahane did well. But some players including Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Prithvi Shaw did not appear in colour.

Bumrah could take only one wicket
Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has returned to the field after an injury, but he is not seen in colour. Bumrah bowled 26 overs in the first innings of the first Test against New Zealand. He spent 88 runs in his spell but could take only one wicket. The lack of rhythm overshadowed Team India. Bumrah could not take a single wicket in the ODI series against New Zealand.

Mohammad Shami also looked colourless
Mohammed Shami was more colourless than Jasprit Bumrah. He bowled 23 overs in the first innings of the first Test. Shami could only take one wicket after spending 93 runs in his spell. Bumrah and Ishant were playing their first Test match after injury, in which Mohammed Shami had more responsibility. But he managed to score more runs than both these bowlers.

Prithvi Shaw also has problems
Opener Prithvi Shaw has been in New Zealand for almost two months. He was first got selected in India A squad so that he could adapt himself to the circumstances of New Zealand. After this, Prithvi got a chance to play in all three ODIs as well. Despite all this, he was seen struggling in front of the New Zealand bowlers. The way in which he lost the wicket in the second innings, it felt that he was probably not ready for the bouncy wicket. Prithvi scored 16 in the first innings and 14 in the second innings.

Kohli’s form of concern
Captain Virat Kohli once again could not play as per his reputation. He was dismissed after scoring 2 runs in the first innings and 19 in the second innings. Virat is the No. 1 batsman of the team. In such a situation, his failure was heavy on India. This is the 20th consecutive innings when Virat Kohli could not score a century.

Hanuma Vihari also flopped
Hanuma Vihari scored a century in the practice match. In such a situation, he had high hopes for the Test match. But he could score only 22 runs in the match. Vihari was dismissed by 7 runs in the first innings and 15 runs in the second innings. Cheteshwar Pujara also failed to meet expectations. Like Vihari, he could score only 22 runs in the match. They were dismissed by 11–11 runs in both innings. However, Pujara faced 81 balls in the second innings and expressed that even though he could not score runs, it would not be right to call him out of form.
