Rohit Sharma scored 212 runs in the third Test against South Africa. He is the third Indian to score a double century in this series.

The series being played between India and South Africa is proving to be historic one. A number of records have been broken in the series. One such record was made by Rohit Sharma’s double century. Rohit Sharma scored 212 runs in the third Test. This is Rohit Sharma’s third century and first double century in the series.

This is the third time in the current series being played between India and South Africa when an Indian has hit a double century. Mayank Agarwal scored a double century in the match played in Visakhapatnam. He then scored 215 runs. After this, in the second Test match played in Pune, captain Virat Kohli played an unbeaten inning of 254 runs. It is also the highest score in Test cricket in 2019.

This is only the second time in Indian cricket history when three double centuries have been scored by India in a Test series. Earlier, in the series played against New Zealand in 1955-56, such a wonderful performance was seen. Then Vinoo Mankad (223, 231) had two in the series and Pauli Umrigar (223) hit a double century. But this is the first time in the history of cricket when three batsmen of India have scored double centuries in the same series.

Similarly, this is only the second time that Indian batsmen have scored double centuries in three consecutive Test matches. Earlier in 2015-16, such an opportunity came. Then Virat Kohli played 235 innings and Karun Nair scored 303 runs against England. After this, Virat Kohli scored 204 runs against Bangladesh.

Talking about the third Test being played between India and South Africa, on the second day of the match, Rohit Sharma completed his double century. Rohit hit six sixes and 28 fours in his innings. He was caught at the fine leg boundary in search of sixes. He completed a century and a double century by hitting sixes.
