Buoyed by his team’s defeat in the first Test, former Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram says that if captain Azhar Ali fails to perform and the team does not win the remaining matches of the series against England then the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) must search for the new captain.
Despite gaining a first-innings lead in the first Test against England and giving England an early setback in the second innings, Pakistan suffered a three-wicket defeat, following which captain Azhar is facing a lot of criticism. For England, Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes had played an important role in winning the match for their team by making an excellent partnership of 139 runs.
Akram said, “If Pakistan’s team wins the other two matches of the series, then he can remain the captain. It depends on their performance. But if the team does not win and Azhar cannot perform well then the PCB should look for a new captain. Azhar, while replying to the criticisms at the virtual press conference after the match, said, “It is easy to criticize someone but it is also necessary to know what one can do when there is a great partnership.” All the time you cannot raise a finger on the captain, but I take responsibility that we could not defend the score.”
