The first encounter of the three-match T20I series between England and Pakistan was called-off due to rain in Manchester. Pakistan captain Babar Azam who won the toss opted to bowl first.

England lost Jonny Bairstow early in the innings but opener Tom Banton and Dawid Malan held the innings together. The two put up a partnership of 71 for the second wicket before Malan departed for 23.

The home side was steady in the innings but Banton’s dismissal for 71 saw quick fall of wickets. They reduced to 123/6 with the likes of Morgan and Moeen Ali back in the hut.

England’s score sheet read 131/6 in 16.1 overs when the match was halted.

For Pakistan, it was the spinner’s day out as Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim shared four out the six wickets. Iftikhar Ahmed also picked up a wicket while one came through a runout.

The second match will be played played on Sunday at the same venue.
