England went 1-0 up in the three-match T20I series against pakistan after beating them by five wickets in Manchester on Sunday.

Chasing a stiff total of 196 runs, England went over the line in the last over after captain Eoin Morgan and Dawid Malan struck individual half-centuries during the course.

Jonny Bairstow too chipped in with a brisk 44 off 24. England had a good start to the chase as the two openers compiled a stand of 66 for the first wicket before Shadab Khan scalped two wickets on the trot.

But Morgan and Malan then held the innings together and put a stand of 112 runs for the third wicket.

Earlier, Pakistan rode on Mohammad Hafeez’s 36-ball 69 to post a total of 195/4 in 20 overs. Captain Babar Azam too notched up a half-century while Fakhar Zaman struck 36 off 22.

For England, it was Ail Rashid who was the pick of the bowlers as he scalped a couple of wickets and bowled at a decent bowling economy rate of 8.

The next match will take place on Tuesday at the same venue.
