England batsman Sam Billings’ maiden ton went in vain as Australia clinched the match by 19 runs to go 1-0 up in the three-match ODI series in Manchester.
Chasing a stiff total of 295, England were restricted to 275/9 in 50 overs. While Billings scored a ton, Jonny Bairstow notched up 84 efore getting out to Adam Zampa. The leg-spinner picked up a four-wicket haul eventually.

Apart from Zampa, Josh Hazlewood scalped three while Pat Cummins and Mitchell Marsh picked up one wicket apiece.

Earlier, Australia rode on Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell’s half-centuries to put up a defendable total. They were redcued to 123/5 before Marsh and Maxwell came in for the rescue of their side.
For England it was Jofra Archer and Mark Wood who picked up three wickets each while Adil Rashid got two and Chris Woakes one.
The second match takes place on Sunday at the same venue.
