The Indian team has a 100% record against Pakistan in the World Cup matches. The two sides have faced each other in 1992, 1996, 1999, 2003, 2011, 2015 and 2019 in the 50-over World Cup and The Men in Blue have been unbeaten so far. This Independence day we celebrate India’s win against arch-rivals Pakistan in the World Cup matches.

Indo-Pak first met in the Benson Hedges World Cup 1992. India scored 216/7 and won the match by 43 runs as Pakistan were bowled out at 173. Sachin Tendulkar was awarded the Man of the Match for his all-round performance as he scored 54 and scalped a wicket conceding just 37 runs in 10 overs.

The second encounter was in Wills World Cup 1996, Quarter-Final as this was a crucial match for both of the sides. India scored 287 by the help of a brilliant knock of 93 by Navjot Singh Sidhu and grabbed the Man of the match award too. Pakistan just scored 248 and lost the match by 39 runs.

The third match took place in ICC World Cup 1999 fixture during the Super Six stage. India scored 227 with the help of 61 by Rahul Dravid on a tough track for batting. In reply, Pakistan were bowled out for 180. With the help of the super spell of Venkatesh Prasad, India defeated Pakistan by 47 runs as Venky took 5/27 and was awarded as Man of the match.

The fourth match can be said the toughest one as the Indian batting line up was against a pace attack comprising Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar, Waqar Younis and Abdul Razzaq. The ICC World Cup 2003, Pool A match was held at Centurion. Pakistan decided to bat first and posted 273 with the century of Saeed Anwar. In reply, India scored 276 in 45.4 overs. Sachin Tendulkar was the star player but missed the century just by 2 runs. India won by 6 wickets.

In the fifth clash, it was the big semifinals of the tournament. India’s dream of winning the ICC World Cup at home came one step closer after their bowlers restricted Pakistan’s batsmen to set up a 29 run victory in the semi-final in Mohali. Dhoni had no hesitation in batting first after winning the toss. India scored 260 runs in the first innings. In reply, Pakistan was bowled out at 231. Sachin Tendulkar was the Man of the match with his knock of 85 runs.

The arch-rivals met at Adelaide in the ICC World Cup 2015. The match was not exactly a classic but had almost everything one could hope for in an India-Pakistan encounter. Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat first and India scored 300 in the first innings, Kohli (107) was the lynchpin with his 22nd ODI hundred. Pakistan were never in the hunt. Pakistan fans hoped for a miracle from Misbah after they were 102/2 in 24 overs, but the asking rate was too steep. Misbah top scored with 76 as Pakistan crumbled for 224 in 47 overs. India comfortably won the match by 76 runs. Virat was the player of the match. The result extended India’s record against Pakistan in the ICC World Cups to 6-0.

The script didn’t really change in 2019 in England and the Virat-Kohli led team convincingly beat Pakistan.
