Shreyas Iyer is an Indian cricketer who represents India in international cricket, Mumbai in the domestic circuit and captains Delhi Capitals in IPL. He was born on 6 December 1994 in Mumbai to Santosh Iyer, who has his roots in Kerala, and Rohini Iyer, a Mangalorean Tuluva. The 26-year-old is one of the most exciting prospects in the Indian cricket team. The classy right-handed middle-order batsman has been touted as India’s answer to the number 4 batting position conundrum. His style of playing has routinely drawn comparisons to Virender Sehwag by several cricket enthusiasts. He has also represented India in the Under-19 cricket team at the 2014 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

The youngster came into the limelight through the Indian Premier League when he was bought for INR 2.6 Crore by Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in the 2015 season. He lived up to the hype in his debut IPL season and smashed 439 runs in 14 matches. After that, Delhi continued to back him, and he was appointed as the captain of the franchise in mid-season 2018. In 22 ODIs, Iyer has scored 813 runs at an average of 42.8, while in T20Is, he has slammed 550 in 29 innings. Talking about his IPL career, he has so far scored 2200 runs in 79 games.
