Trinbago Knight Riders emerged victorious after beating St Lucia Zouks by 8 wickets in the final in Trinidad. Riding on brilliant batting performance from Lendl Simmons and Darren Bravo, TKR chased down the total with more than one over to spare in the final.

Batting first, Lucia lost an early wicket while the score read 10 but steadied the ship for themselves as Mark Deyal and Andre Fletcher stitched a partnership of 67 runs before Deyal departed for 29.

Fletcher followed him 12 runs later after scoring 39 and the Zouks began to lose wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bundled out for 154. Pollard scalped a four-for.

In reply, Scott Kuggeleijn and Roston Chase did give them early breakthroughs but their efforts weren’t enough as Trinbago’s Simmons and Bravo scored an unbeaten stand of 138 runs to see their side home. Simmons scored 84* while Bravo remained not out for 58.

Who Said What?

Kieron Pollard, Player of the Tournament: Really pleased to contribute with bat and ball. Last 12-18 months, I’ve had honest conversations with some of my teammates and took time to work on some things with respect to my game. Since then, things have been working fine. It’s all settling in my mind and it’s a matter of continuing to perform like this. Some teams that I play in have many bowlers, so I don’t need to chip in always. But here in the Caribbean, I think I can contribute. I don’t have pace or swing but I use my brain. Fitness is a part and parcel of this game. My family knows the kind of work I’ve put in for my fitness.

Lendl Simmons, Player of the Match: It was a good innings for me. Me and Bravo bat well together, we were waiting for the bad balls to score. (On missing Narine) We have a strong bench and all the players love to get the opportunity to play. Last year I did well in the prelims but didn’t do well in the knockouts so this time decided to take extra responsibility. Didn’t start the tournament well but managed to end well and I’m really pleased.
