Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant batted against Australia but did not take the field in the second innings. In place of Rishabh, Manish Pandey did the fielding as a concussion while KL Rahul, the wicketkeeper in the IPL including domestic cricket, was seen wearing gloves behind the wicket.
In fact, 22-year-old Pant was hit by a sharp bouncer from Mitchell Starc in the 44th over of the Indian innings. Pant tried to play a pull shot, but the ball took the edge of his bat and went to hit the helmet. Ashton Turner took the catch and the umpire also gave out.
At that time, Rishabh remained on the field without any medical advice and treatment, but after the innings was over it became clear that he wasn’t feeling better. The injury was confirmed when a statement issued by the BCCI stated that “Pant is currently under medical supervision.” He did not even come out in the break between innings with the team.
Rishabh Pant scored 28 runs off 33 balls which included four fours and a six. Team India was all out for 255 in 49.1 overs. Shikhar Dhawan scored the highest 74 runs for India. Mitchell Starc had three, Cummins and Richardson had two successes each for Australia during their brilliant bowling effort.
