Tom Blundell will open the innings for New Zealand in this match starting on Thursday. Blundell has been included in the team in place of Jeet Rawal. He played an unbeaten half-century in the practice match against Victoria XI. The 29-year-old Blundell has not started an innings in his 93 first-class matches. But he hopes that he can do it here.

New Zealand has confirmed Blundell to play in the playing XI. Blundell said, “I feel that I can do this work anywhere. In this match, I am getting to do this and I am excited about the Boxing Day Test.” The Australian team won the first Test in Perth by 296 runs and held a 1-0 lead in the three-match Test series.


Australian coach Justin Langer has indicated that James Pattinson may get a chance to play in a Boxing Day match. Langer said that Pattinson may be prefered over Michael Neser and Peter Siddle. Pattinson was the 12th player in the Perth Test.
