India all-rounder Hardik Pandya played a blisterring knock against Australia in Sydney on Sunday. He scored a match-winning knock of 42* in 22 balls.

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan prasied Pandya for his knock. “He has to look at the next three years. With the next T20 world cup being in India, obviously the IPL being in India, the next 50-over World Cup is in India in 2023, Hardik Pandya has got a great opportunity to become the next global superstar,” Vaughan said in a video with Cricbuzz.

“MS Dhoni, he had that mantle for many years. Virat Kohli has it now. It’s generally the Indian players that get put onto that pedestal and I think Hardik’s got a chance to be the next superstar,” he added.

India sealed the three-match T20I series against Australia in Sydney after chasing down a target of 195 by 6 wickets and two balls to spare. India were off to a flying start after KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan stitched a stand of 56 runs for the first wicket.

Rahul scored 30 while Dhawan went on to socre a fifty. Virat Kohli who came in at number three chipped in 40 runs but Hardik Pandya played one of the finest innings on Sunday.

India needed 14 runs from the last over and Pandya made it look like a cake walk for them. He got a couple on the firts ball while smacked two sixes in a span of three balls to take India home. Pandya remained unbeaten at 42.

Earlier, Australia rode on some brisk batting display from stand-in captain Matthew Wade who struck 58 while former skipper Steve Smith too contributed with 46. Australia scored 194/5 in 20 overs.

Natarajan once again showed his potential and returned with figures of 2/20 in 4 overs for India.

“I felt (we were) two good hits (away), quite happy. More than the six I wanted to finish the game. I don’t like the game going till the last ball, I like to finish the game early. I was just going to whack the ball anyway (smiles). The whole five games, I’ve been trying to figure out which bat to bat with. I broke the bat with which I was playing for three years. This one looks alright,” Hardik said after the match.
